Road mats are equipment that provide level ground on construction sites. They’re also called swamp mats and access mats. This is because pipeline and construction projects almost never take place on smooth terrain. Instead, they often pass through swamps and other wilderness that’s wet and unstable.

Laminated Mats
The laminated mat is historically one of the most widely-used road mats.
Composition
Three layers of wood, aka 3-ply, nailed or bolted together. Usually the wood is hardwood.
Ideal Use
This product is best used to support rubber-tired machines.

CLT Mats
CLT Mats are similar to laminated mats in their structure and purpose. However, they are lighter weight, which allows you to save on freight costs and makes them somewhat easier to install.
Composition
Like laminated mats, CLTs are three pieces of wood stuck together. However, they are made of pine wood rather than hardwood, and they are joined by strong adhesives rather than nails or bolts.
Ideal Use
These work well for rubber-tired vehicles. They aren’t as useful for tracked equipment.

Composite Mats
Composite mats are our biggest seller because they offer numerous advantages over other road matting products. For one thing, they are stronger than both laminated and CLT matting. They are also lighter, which will reduce your freight costs. Composite mats also hold up against rain and extreme weather better than wood mats, and they have a higher rate of reusability.
Perhaps best of all, composite mats latch together like links in a chain and have no gaps between them as a result. These features and others highly benefit the safety and flow of your project.
